International Impressions

The Palmetto Concert Band is proud to present its February concert “International Impressions” under the direction of guest conductor Dr. Cormac Cannon. Each piece gives an impression of a country and will be based on the music from another country or a composer from another country. You will hear Argentinian dance songs from the ballet “Estancia” by Albert Ginastera, English folk songs in a suite by Ralph Vaughn Williams, a beautiful Australian tune by Percy Aldridge Grainger, as well as a march by Norwegian composer Johan Halvorsen. The band will also perform an arrangement of folk songs from Armenia written by American composer Alfred Reed, and impressions from the Romani people whose melodies and rhythms are a fusion of styles and cultures: Malagueña of Spain, Argentine Tango, Arabic music, Turkish folk songs, Latin claves, and Jazz.
